Archery Bows
With all of the archery bows on the market, how do you choose just one? Well, it helps to know a thing or two about the various types available.
Let’s start with the recurve type. Usually, recurves are made from laminated carbon or fiberglass. This type is perfect for beginners, though it is also the chosen bow of the Olympics. Next, the reflex type presents an interesting option. These are made from the same type of materials that the recurve is made from, but it curves away from the archer, which makes it different. These are the two most popular types of archery bows, though there are some others to consider.
The self bow is one that is made from wood, which is why it is very straight. Likewise, the straight bow is fashioned after the self one, though it is made from fiberglass or carbon. If you want to go with something more primitive, the longbow is the one that will conjure up images of cavemen. Then again, you could go ultra modern and settle for the composite bow, which is made from wood, fiberglass or carbon, and then laminated.
Lastly, the compound bow is similar to the recurve only it includes pulleys that help to adjust the limbs properly. So, which one is for you? Well, that all depends upon your height, weight, and type. You see, hunters tend to choose ones that are very different from those that archers use. Also, competitors often go for those that are made from carbon due to their weight and precision. Really, the one that you select will be due to the acts that you wish to complete. If you are not sure, head to a sports shop and try a few out. You’ll soon see that there is a world of difference between all types of archery bows.
